Laboratory Instrumentation Technologist

Position Summary:

The Department of Science Support Services seeks a full-time, 12-month Laboratory Instrumentation Technologist. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the College's scientific infrastructure and supporting its academic mission.

Under the direction of the Director of Science Support Services, the Laboratory Instrumentation Technologist maintains and manages analytical instruments and equipment for the College's science departments while providing technical support and training to faculty and students. 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee analytical instrumentation maintenance and operation, including NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, and FTIR systems
  • Perform regular calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Monitor and maintain temperature monitoring systems across facilities
  • Manage inventory of chemicals and hazardous materials using Quartzy
  • Support faculty’s specialized research equipment needs 

Qualifications:

·  Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field and 3+ year’s experience with analytical instrumentation.

·  Demonstrated proficiency with NMR, GC-MS, and LC-MS systems.

·  Demonstrated knowledge of chemical safety and hazardous materials handling.

·  Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform duties in labs and storage spaces involving reaching; lifting; packing/unpacking; assembling; loading/unloading lab supplies from benches, tables, and carts; cleaning glassware in sinks; storing equipment and supplies in cupboards and on shelves and lab benches.
  • Ability to carry 50 pounds over short distances and perform extended periods of standing.
  • Ability to move across all areas of campus.
  • Visual acuity for instrument maintenance and computer work.
