Title IX
Title IX is a comprehensive federal civil rights law.
Title IX, signed by President Richard Nixon on June 23, 1972, prohibits discrimination based on sex in any federally funded educational program or activity. Title IX says:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
The Department of Educations Title IX Regulations (Volume 34, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 106), which are updated periodically, provide information about the forms of discrimination prohibited by Title IX. Read the current version below.
