Maria McComsey graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from West Chester University and completed the Instructional Technology Master’s Program at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. Maria currently teaches Social Skills and Career Readiness Skills for 6th-12th graders at River Rock Academy. Since 1997, Maria has worked with infants, children, adolescents, and adults in supervisory roles for a variety of settings including:
- Home-Based Early Intervention
- Early-Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- Alternative Education
- Partial Hospitalization Facilities for Children and Adolescents
- Mobile Therapy
- Re-entry Programs
- Juvenile Justice Programs
Her continued studies in trauma-informed care and prior experiences have given her a solid foundation in child/human development, as well as superior classroom and behavioral management techniques. She now shares her knowledge, along with her colleague and business partner, Rosie Mann, through their company, Forged in Fire Trauma Education Programs. Forged in Fire specializes in training programs for students, parents, school staff and school administration. FIFPA is informed by the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACEs), the neurology of emotions and behavior, positive psychology, trauma-informed positive behavior supports, and restorative practices.
Maria also volunteers in her community as a facilitator for Restorative Justice and Healing from Conflict and Crime through Advoz Mediation and Restorative Practices in Lancaster, PA.
