Parents will engage in an interactive session giving them insight into the science of “why” their children are behaving in certain ways in hopes that these challenges can be overcome. It is recommended that Parent Summits be held about every 8 weeks during the school year.
Parents have the greatest impact on a child’s development, beginning from infancy and far beyond. Often parents face stressors that make connecting and relating to their children challenging, and when children engage in disruptive and harmful behavior parents may begin to feel ill-equipped.
Summits are designed to both educate and support parents. The host is encouraged to provide a meal during which relationships and sharing will be facilitated. Parents will then engage in an interactive session that will give them insight into the science of “why” their children are behaving in certain ways, and hope that these challenges can be overcome.
Parents will be given hope when they realize that there are actions that they can take that will change children’s physiology, the ultimate cause of their behavioral challenges. The demand for compliance will be released. Parents will walk away feeling empowered and renewed.
It is recommended that Parent Summits be held about every 8 weeks during the school year.
Parent Summit Topics include:
- Emotions and Behavior
- Relationships and Communication
- Positive Behavior Support and Discipline
- Resilience and Hope for the Future
Parent summits may be stand-alone supports for your community or may be combined with trainings and professional learning communities. When combined, emphasis will be placed on consistency and communication between home and school and the effective utilization of tools and strategies across environments.
