Cavan Helmering (she/her)
Hi everyone! I am Cavan, and I am a math major with a minor in data science. Coming into ±¬ÁϹÏ, I took Multivariable Calculus to fulfill my math requirement, but within a few weeks, I knew that I wanted to major in math. Everyone is so collaborative within the department and wants you to succeed. Outside of my many hours at Park, you can find me working out at Schwartz gym, at Jewish events at the Chabad house, or doing work for my internship! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out! I would love to talk to you, whether about a major, minor, or the AB/MA program!
K.c Kula (she/her)
Hi! I’m K.c, and I’m a math major from Columbus, Ohio. I am also a data science and geology minor and am super interested in applying math to real-world issues! I’ve always enjoyed math but didn’t know I wanted to be a math major until I saw the support and passion within the Math Department. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, playing pickleball, and being outside with friends. On the weekends, I often go to museums, restaurants, baseball games, and walk around Philly. I also work with Campus Philly to help introduce college students to the area. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
Sarah Lohrey (she/her)
Hi everyone! My name is Sarah, and I am a math major and education studies minor on the teacher certification track. I am from Yardley, PA, so only about 45 minutes from ±¬ÁϹÏ. I have always really enjoyed math, so I knew coming into ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï that I wanted to be a math major. The Mathematics Department here has fantastic professors who are care about your learning process and really want you to succeed, and they are also supportive of you as a person and the activities you participate in. Apart from doing math, I play for the soccer team at ±¬ÁϹÏ, and it’s always nice to see the math professors coming to soccer games and creating a community that feels so welcoming and supportive. If you have any questions about the major or especially about the teacher certification process, feel free to reach out!
Orli McGuire-Berk (they/she)
Heyyy!! My name is Orli McGuire-Berk, and I am a Math Major from South Jersey. I came to ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï being interested in Math, Physics, and Growth and Structures of Cities. I slowly found myself becoming more interested in Math at the beginning of my sophomore year and quickly declared my major. I found the faculty to be very welcoming and opening and loved the electives I took in applied math. Outside of Math, I am a libero and captain of the volleyball team, and I am on the lacrosse team. I am very passionate about creating a warm and welcoming space within the ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï Math Community. Personally, I do so with math jokes. My friend and fellow Math Major Smidge and I constantly make math jokes, dances, and try to foster a welcoming environment. If you have any questions about being a Math Major or being a STEM major while participating in a varsity sport feel free to reach out!
Sophia Midgley (she/her)
Hi! I’m Sophia (also known as Smidge), and I’m a math major with a Spanish minor at ±¬ÁϹÏ. Entering college as a freshman, I had no idea that I would now be a math major. I spent my first three semesters of college on track to major in physics, but my love for the Math Department changed my mind. The ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï Math Department is super fun and welcoming - all the professors, staff, and students are really awesome, and everyone wants you to succeed! Also, math jokes are plentiful in the Math Department, so pay us a visit if you ever want to have a good laugh! Outside of math, I enjoy performing choreographed dance routines to I’m a Believer by Smash Mouth and harmonizing to Do-Re-Mi with my friend/fellow math major Orli. Please reach out to me with any questions about math or anything else! I’m always happy to talk!
Anna Nguyen (she/her)
Hi y’all! My name is Anna. I am a math major with a chemistry minor from Houston, Texas. Coming into ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï I originally intended to be a biology major but found my love and passion for math and its beauty after my first semester in Multivariable Calculus. I am really passionate about changing the perspective of Math Education in primary school to encompass the art and fun it is. If you don't see me in Park struggling with my math or pre-med courses, you’ll probably see me in the Wellness Building doing AMO or CDA duties. I really enjoy tennis, rock climbing, trying different restaurants around Philly, and R&B and funk music. Feel free to stop me whenever you have these interests too or just wanna talk!
Lucy Wilson (she/her)
Daisy Xu (she/her)
Hi, everyone! I am Daisy, and I’m a math major at ±¬ÁϹÏ. My interest in math began at high school. I was fascinated by the logic behind math and how broadly math can be applied in real life situations. Coming into ±¬ÁϹÏ, I was very certain that I would become a math major. Through the courses I have taken, I’ve found myself interested in applied math and algebra. The ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï Math Department is very welcoming with an embracing learning environment for all students interested in math created by all the professors, staff, and students. Outside of classrooms, I really enjoy watching Asian films. I’m eager to help you with any questions about being a math major and math courses. Please feel free to reach out to me for any questions!
Christine Yang (she/her)
Hello everyone! I'm Christine (Jingxuan) Yang, hailing from the beautiful city of Jinan, China. I'm pursuing a double major in Mathematics and Physics at ±¬ÁϹÏ. My journey into the world of mathematics began in middle school, with a particular fascination for applied mathematics and mathematical modeling. Presently, I'm deeply engrossed in my thesis, focusing on the intriguing realm of financial mathematics. Beyond my academic pursuits, I hold a fervent passion for Chinese classical dance, nurturing a dream to one day choreograph my own performance and spread the beauty of Chinese dance. The Math Department here is like my second home. I love its warm and welcoming atmosphere, and I've found invaluable support and friendship. I am absolutely delighted to be serving as a math major representative this year, so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or suggestions you may have. :)

Jo Amuso (she/her)
Hello everyone! My name is Jo, and I’m a math major with a Japanese minor at Haverford. As a freshman I intended to be a math/physics double major, but unfortunately that turned out to be unfeasible for me (still, much love to the physics department). I chose math because I enjoy the sense of camaraderie amongst the students and faculty. I strongly believe that anyone and everyone belongs in the math department and has a right to feel safe and accepted in these spaces. Outside of math, I love knitting and crocheting, Magic the Gathering, Japanese animation and video games, and can sometimes be found watering my many plants on the steps of Rock Arch at 12 am. Feel free to reach out to me anytime you feel comfortable doing so, especially with questions about the AB/MA application process if that interests you!
Lindley McCutcheon (she/her)
Hey, hey y'all! My name is Lindley McCutcheon, and I'm a math major and French minor from Chicago! Growing up with a dad who's a math teacher, math has always been a huge part of my life. Coming into college, I wasn't sure what I wanted to major in, but when I realized I didn't want to stop taking math classes, I realized the major made the most sense for me. Outside of the lovely numerical world at ±¬ÁϹÏ, I'm also a member of the Looney Tunes A Cappella group and the Lame Ducks Ice Hockey Club. If you have questions about majoring in math and studying abroad/participating in a 360º program, or any questions in general, please reach out!! Welcome to the Math Department <3!
Chloe Shupe (she/her)
Hey y’all! I’m Chloe, and I’m a math major from Houston, TX. I developed my love for math in early elementary school, and by middle school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in math. The ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï math community is so supportive, and I love getting to work with and learn from other math majors everyday. If you can’t find me in Park doing math homework on Post-It notes, I’m probably in a dance studio. I’m actively involved in the Bi-Co and greater Philadelphia dance communities, performing with Shift Dance Company, Noise Complaint Tap Company, and The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble. I love talking about math with other people, and I’m happy to answer any questions so feel free to reach out!
Abhi Suresh (she/her)
Hi everyone! My name is Abhi Suresh, and I'm a current senior Math Major, Educational Studies Minor. On campus, I'm involved in a lot of things including being an AMO head and the Co-Treasurer on SGA E-board. I came into ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï wanting to do math - and safe to say I stuck with it! I'm always happy to answer questions or ponderings you might have about the major, math, and anything else I do. Outside of academics, I love trying new cafes and restaurants in Philly; if you have any recommendations, please reach out!
