Museum Studies
±¬ÁϹÏ's program in Museum Studies provides a rich and dynamic education in both museum theory and practice. Students learn about the history of museums and their roles in society, and they engage with critical, theoretical museum scholarship. Through coursework and internships, students also have the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in the ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï Special Collections as well as in museums, galleries, and archives in Philadelphia and beyond.
This dynamic and interdisciplinary program connects courses from disciplines such as History of Art, Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Cities, Biology, and Geology. Students are always encouraged to look for new ways to connect Museum Studies to their coursework at ±¬ÁϹÏ, Haverford, and Swarthmore. The Museum Studies program also draws upon ±¬ÁϹÏ's extensive collection of more than 50,000 objects from diverse regions around the globe as well as the College’s Special Collections of rare books and prints, photographs, and manuscripts.
As a model of engaged liberal arts, Museum Studies aims to create innovative interdisciplinary scholars who are poised to advance the Museum from the inside out.
